چکیده

There are a number of attempt to reveal the structure of globalized world by scholars of urban studies. According to them, the world is structured in a certain way and world cities are formed into a complex spatial hierarchy (Friedmann 1985; Sassen 1991; Taylor and Walker 2001; Derudder et al. 2003). To reveal this structure, Sassen used the location of major producer services to determine the positions of world cities in the world hierarchy regarding world cities as global service centers (Sassen 1991). Based on Sassen’s approach emphasizing the role of global firms, Taylor introduced network approaches to determine ‘world city-ness’ of 55 cities with 46 global service firms. Derudder et al. expanded this approach to 234 cities with 100 global service firms such as KPMG, Arthur Anderson and Deutsche Bank.
